High-power fast charging has become the mainstream trend of consumer demand, which will promote the further development of fast charging technology and the scale construction of enterprises. At present, the source of income of charging pile operators is still electricity prices and charging service fees, which are basically flat in and out.

With the further marketization of the charging pile industry, the charging profit model is expected to be more abundant, such as the big data platform charging pile APP to provide data information services for automobiles, travel services and other enterprises, and improve the quality of users' travel services and operating income.

iMedia Consulting released the "2022-2023 China Electric Vehicle Charging Pile Industry Status and Development Prospect Report" As of 2021, China's new energy vehicle ownership reached 7.84 million, a year-on-year increase of 59.3%, and it is expected that China's new energy vehicle ownership will reach 26.72 million and pure electric vehicles will reach 23.24 million in 2025.

The General Office of the State Council issued the "New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035)", proposing to adhere to the strategic orientation of pure electric drive, pure electric vehicles will become the mainstream products of new sales vehicles in 2025, and the full electrification of vehicles in the public sector will promote traditional car companies to accelerate the layout of new energy products.

China's new energy vehicles drive the development of charging pile industry: sales

Affected by the government's new energy subsidy policy, the sales of new energy vehicles in China increased significantly from 2015 to 2018, of which pure electric vehicles accounted for the main share of the new energy vehicle market. In 2021, China's new energy vehicles sold a total of 3.521 million units, an increase of 157.5% compared with the same period last year, and the sales of pure electric vehicles increased by 160.9% year-on-year.

It is expected that the sales volume of new energy enterprises will continue to increase at a compound growth rate of 11.2% from 2021 to 2025, and the sales volume of new energy vehicles will reach 5.500 million units in 2025.

Downstream analysis of China's charging pile industry: vehicle pile ratio

By the end of 2021, the ratio of new energy vehicles to public charging piles in China was 6.8:1, and the ratio of vehicle piles to private charging piles was close to 3.7:1. Some analysts believe that according to the charging infrastructure development plan proposed by the National Development and Reform Commission, the charging pile ratio should reach 1:1 by 2020, and the popularity of new energy vehicles in China is still relatively low, but the market development space is huge, and the construction space of charging piles is also large.

Therefore, the vigorous development of the charging pile market can increase the coverage of charging piles, improve the convenience of charging business, and then improve the popularity of new energy vehicles.

Development trend of China's charging pile industry in 2022-2023

With the rise of the sharing economy in the Chinese market, its application scope has gradually expanded and enriched, from power banks, bicycles, umbrellas to cars and other large items, can become the product of the sharing economy.

The core of the sharing economy is to improve asset utilization and reduce depreciation and amortization costs, while the current allocation of private charging piles is low in the central urban areas of first- and second-tier cities due to resistance factors such as difficulty in entering residential areas; In addition, electric vehicles are usually daily commuting vehicles, so most private charging spaces are basically idle during the day; In this way, the sharing of private charging piles can meet the charging needs of most electric vehicle owners.

As of April 2022, there are 1.992 million (private) charging facilities built with vehicles in China, of which only a quarter can be shared, and the supply of charging piles is basically close to tens of thousands of public charging stations (assuming that one charging station provides 15 stations). Therefore, the charging pile equipped with electric vehicles has the potential to become another emerging business in the sharing economy industry.
